Position Summary
Georgetown Visitation, an all-girls, Catholic secondary school in the Roman Catholic and Salesian traditions, is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Chief Financial Officer. The CFO’s primary responsibility is to manage all aspects of the school’s financial management and accounting functions.  In addition, the CFO will oversee the development and execution of a sustainable, multi-year financial strategy to ensure the fiscal stability of the school.  Related responsibilities include enterprise risk management, compliance with federal and state regulations, preparation of the annual budget, and financial reporting. The CFO will report to the Head of School and work in close collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
 
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a clear vision of the role of finance in realizing institutional objectives and priorities. An outstanding communicator and problem solver, s/he will bring a proven commitment to transparency and collaboration. A minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible senior management experience in a complex, preferably academic, environment is required. An MBA or CPA is strongly preferred.
 
Responsibilities

  • Ensure the school’s financial stability by developing, implementing and monitoring effective systems of financial control and decision-making. 
  • Steward the school’s resources effectively and, by the application of sound business principles, improve its operating efficiency.
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of financial statements for the Head of School and Board of Directors.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process to ensure a high degree of financial literacy among all senior staff and department chairs.          
  • Remain knowledgeable of emerging trends and their potential impact on the school’s future.
  • Research, analyze, and present benchmarking data that will advise all financial decisions.
  • Oversee other specific responsibilities including enterprise risk management, employee salaries and benefits, compliance with federal and state regulations, preparation of the annual budget, and the development of a sustainable, multi-year financial model.  
  • Oversee coordination and activities of independent auditors for both annual financial statements and retirement plans.    
  • Attend and support Board and Finance/Audit Committee (and relevant subcommittee) meetings.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Development office and Monastery business office to ensure effective communication and controls.
  • Oversee administrative services including facilities, campus bookstore, kitchen, catering, and onsite childcare center.

 
Qualifications

  • An MBA or CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible senior management experience in a complex, preferably academic, environment are required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, reimbursement, financial compliance, cash management, contracting, purchasing, enterprise risk management, and investing.        
  • Proven ability to develop a financial strategy and provide vital business insights.
  • Exceptional project management skills: developing project plans, communicating changes and progress, and completing projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong business acumen and a demonstrated ability to manage teams and vendor relationships.    
  • Outstanding oral and written communication and an ability to present data and ideas effectively to various constituencies.
  • High degree of computer literacy with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), accounting, and fundraising software. Familiarity with Intacct Financial Systems preferred.

The Chief Financial Officer is the principal advisor to the diocesan bishop in matters of finance in cooperation with the Diocesan Finance Council. Education and Experience Requirements

  • Administrative leadership experience, preferably in the Catholic Church or non-profit, including working with consultative bodies, supervision, accounting, investing, and borrowing.
  • Valid, current driver’s license and own, reliable transportation.
  • Due to the nature of this position, it is required that the incumbent be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who is registered and active in a parish.

Other Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of budgeting principles and practices (including use of spreadsheet software), accounting principles, investment, and financial reporting methodologies.
  • Experience required in the following areas: property management, investments, employee benefits and insurance.
  • Familiarity with the Code of Canon Law related to temporal goods preferred.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others on all levels both orally and in writing; excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain friendly and cooperative relations with employees, clergy, and parishes, schools, and other organizations the diocese supports.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel.

Primary Functions:

As an ecclesiastical office mandated by the universal law of the Church, the Diocesan Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall financial management of the Diocese and the stewardship of fiscal resources in support of the mission and goals of the Diocese. This position is appointed by the Bishop to fulfill the particular financial responsibilities as specified in the Code of Canon Law.  This position oversees all financial and related functions including budgeting, accounting and financial reporting, banking and cash management, investments, any internal and all external audits, insurance and risk management, real estate (through the Episcopal Delegate), certain legal matters and information technology.  The position also provides financial oversight, guidance and advice for the fiscal operations of the parishes, missions and schools of the Diocese.

Qualifications:
