Description :

Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) is seeking a Director of Development with a track record of success to spearhead the growth of the development program and advance the organization’s humanitarian mission. This senior leader will serve as a key ambassador for CNEWA, building and managing a diversified donor base to support the organization’s international work.

About Catholic Near East Welfare Association

Founded by Pope Pius XI in 1926, CNEWA works with Eastern Catholic churches to serve as a lifeline for the poor in over a dozen countries throughout the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India, and Eastern Europe. Regardless of faith, CNEWA acts as a bridge between the East and the West through humanitarian aid, education, and support for Christian unity, lending a hand where limited resources and overwhelming need collide.

CNEWA works to identify needs and implements solutions for the world’s poor through the following programs:

Affirming Human Dignity and Alleviating Poverty

  • Supports educational, medical, charitable and cultural initiatives through the local churches that serve children, the handicapped, the sick, the indigent, the homeless and the elderly.
  • Rushes basic supplies for the relief of displaced families and suffering people.
  • Provides health care for expectant mothers, newborns, and the elderly.
  • Supports children with special needs, both psychological and physical.
  • Subsidizes microcredit programs and provides scholarship assistance.

Encouraging Dialogue and Inspiring Hope

  • Advances Christian unity and dialogue among all peoples, Christian and non-Christian.
  • Raises consciousness about the churches and peoples of the East.
  • Advocates respect for human dignity, human rights, understanding among peoples, justice, and peace.

Building Up the Church

  • Prepares priests, religious and lay leaders for their roles of service in the church and provides assistance to them to facilitate their ministry.
  • Restores and equips churches and convents, rectories and schools, and assists the work of the worldwide Catholic Church, especially the Holy See’s Congregation for the Eastern Churches and its councils for Promoting Christian Unity and Interreligious Dialogue.

With headquarters in New York City, CNEWA transforms compassion into action by reaching across the East to provide humanitarian and pastoral support to those places where war and poverty shatter innocent lives. CNEWA is a Catholic organization, but the projects it supports help everyone in need. As one Catholic sister explains, “We don’t help people because they’re Christian. We help because we are.”
