Father Bernard Youth Center is located in Mt. Angel, OR and is highly respected for its commitment to the programs which impact personal faith development, notably a highly successful retreat model and on-going attention to how ones’ faith shapes community and the future. Working closely with the Archdiocese of Portland, FBYC is going to build upon this reputation and dedication to the Catholic Church.


We are seeking an Executive Director with a proven track record in building development programs. In this role you will establish and execute an annual development plan for FBYC including growing operational funds, advising and leading special development opportunities. Early discussions are underway regarding a potential capital campaign and the person selected will have an opportunity to design and execute this in the near future. Successful candidates will bring creativity, decision-making, teamwork, negotiation, problem analysis, a service orientation and a passion to foster the Church’s mission. In addition, this opportunity requires the following:


  • Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization mission


  • Responsible for leading FBYC in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors and the Catholic
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions regarding direction and strategic


  • Financial Performance and Viability: Develops the list of objectives for annual funding goals and helps to secure the necessary resources for annual and long-term financial health of


  • Responsible for working with the appropriate staff and Board to oversee the fiscal integrity of reports for content to the entire FBYC Board, including the development of a proper annual budget and the assessment of monthly / or quarterly financial statements that accurately reflect the financial status / condition of the
  • Responsible for management of the fund-raising area to ensure maximum resource utilization, and to keep FBYC in a positive financial position at during the year and at fiscal year- Responsible for fundraising and developing resources necessary to support FBYC’s mission.


  • Organization Mission and Strategy: Works closely with the Board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.


  • Responsible for overall strategic planning to ensure that FBYC can successfully fulfill its Mission and for the evaluation of FBYC programs that carry out that
  • Responsible for the enhancement of FBYC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private


  • Organization Oversees and implements appropriate action steps to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriately prioritized.


  • Responsible for the effective administration of FBYC operations in a collegial and professional
  • Responsible for the hiring, training and retention of competent, qualified
  • Responsible for handling the notes, agreements, and other legal documents that are entered into and on behalf of the organization and with authority to sign such documents upon approval of the FBYC


Professional Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or five years of non-profit experience with fund-raising and organizational management, ideally within a Catholic entity and including a productive role within at least one capital
  • Transparent leadership style with unquestioned integrity and a strong record of building a positive culture with all staff, volunteers and participants of FYBC
  • Solid budget management skills, including oversight of the preparation of the team preparing the budget, analysis of organizational needs for prioritization within the budget, record of good decision-making, awareness of Human Resources / compliance issues and the timely preparation of materials for the Board and Board
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and staff
  • Ability to convey a vision of FBYC’s strategic future to the Diocese, FBYC staff, board, volunteers and donors
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and evidence of successful donor
  • Willing to collaborate with the Archdiocese / Diocese as needed and to effectively motivate board members and other
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Ability to interface with and engage a diverse volunteer / donor
  • Demonstrated ability to both oversee and collaborate with
  • Strong public speaking


Actual Job Responsibilities:

  1. Planning and operation of annual
  2. Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation in accordance with non-profit guidelines and best
  3. Serving as FBYC’s primary spokesperson to key constituents, the media and the general
  4. Establish and maintain positive relationships with the Archdiocese and Diocese as well as with other organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance FBYC’s
  5. Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their leadership and involvement in policy decisions and with fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of FBYC throughout the region and
  6. Supervise, collaborate with the FBYC
  7. Strategic planning and implementation of the development
  8. Partner with the FBYC Board and committees for monthly
  9. Oversee marketing and other communications efforts and act as the public spokesperson for FBYC in key
  10. Review contracts for services and consult with appropriate Board committees on their execution in a timely
  11. Other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors


Salary is commensurate with experience and other qualifications. While not currently in place, the FBYC Board is committed to pursuing a quality benefits package, including health care, in the near future.
