Full-Time – YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT MINISTER

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position encompasses Middle School, Confirmation Preparation, High School and Young Adults. The Youth and Young Adult Minister provides pastoral, spiritual and catechetical ministry for these young people supporting their growth in faith and personal development.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pastoral Ministry, catechesis and presence for parish members from Middle School into Young Adult years. Working in close collaboration with the Director of Religious Education so that both ministries serving the same population will complement, support and enhance one another in designing and offering programs that work seamlessly together.
Develop, recruit, and support leadership teams for each age group promoting youth leadership roles and working to form and support on-going programs.
Joining in the collaborative work of the entire staff to work as a team in service to the parish and in support of one another.

TYPICAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES THIS POSITION:
1. Assures the development of catechesis and activities for students from Middle School, through High School and Young Adults. Oversees the administration of these programs, including publicity, organization, fund-raising when needed and implementation.
2. Assures on-going faith development opportunities with youth. This is accomplished by organizing liturgical celebrations with youth, by creating opportunities where young people can experience God directly present to them, through scripture and prayer, and by recruiting and training volunteers to facilitate opportunities for youth to experience God in their life experiences
3. Assures direct ministerial outreach to parish youth by coordinating and participating in activities such as weekly gatherings, retreats, social events, religious education sessions, athletics, etc., and by attending parish liturgies, community and school functions according to program priorities. This shall also include special activities such as: REACH Mission trip, NCYC and yearly retreats.
4. Enables Youth and Young Adults to embrace service both within the parish and wider community.
5. Serves as Liaison from Pastor and staff to the CYO program.
6. Collaborates with the pastor and other staff in implementing the mission of the Parish.
This is accomplished by participating in the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of parish goals and objectives, with specific focus on Youth and Young Adult ministry. As well as working with the Pastor to be present for Youth and Young Adult groups and apprising him regarding members or families in crisis or need of pastoral presence and/or support. Serves as a professional resource to parish staff regarding this age profile of the parish community. Also participates and cooperates collaboration with the Fairport Catholic Community parishes and the East Deanery.
7. Assures the budget for youth ministry is prepared, working with the Finance and Pastoral Council teams and Finance Director, and submitted in a timely manner. When budget is approved, assures the monthly monitoring of income and expenses; authorizes all expenditures for that budget. Also assures the development and maintenance of accurate and confidential record-keeping systems.
8. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for this ministry. This is accomplished by regular updating, through reading, and participation at workshops, conventions, etc. Also participates in local, regional, and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.

COMPETENCIES:
Minimum requirement is a BA in Religious Studies, Theology or a related field. A Master’s Degree is desirable.

It is expected that the candidate will be an active, practicing Roman Catholic, whose faith life is demonstrated and desirous of continued spiritual growth with a habit of use and study of Scripture, and desire to share that with our youth and young adults as both role model and mentor.

A comprehensive understanding of Roman Catholic Theology, Sacred Scripture, Moral Theology and Sacramental Theology. Very importantly, the successful candidate will also have the skills to both articulate these areas and the deep desire to draw the individuals and families served into the life of faith.

It is desired that the candidate have a working knowledge of both the needs and issues relating to the youth and young adults this position serves.

Demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, responsibility and accountability along with a desire to be a team player who works well with other staff members.

A fluent use of all necessary technology for MS Office and Web page development

A sense of humor and energetic personality.

The candidate will also be expected to remain current following developing trends in catechetical formation and ministry with this age group.
