IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

Position Title: DIRECTOR OF LITURGICAL MUSIC
Status: Part time, 12-15 hours per week
Reports to: Parochial Vicar
Begins: May 18, 2024

II. PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION
The Director of Liturgical Music serves the parish as principal musician, organist, and choir
director according to the highest professional standards established by this profession.

III. POSITION CONTENT
A. Director of Music at St. Lawrence and Immaculate Conception
1. Provides service by playing for the weekend and holy day parish liturgical
celebrations including one Saturday Vigil Mass and two Sunday morning
Masses. St. Lawrence has an 8:30am Sunday Mass. Immaculate Conception
has a 4:00pm Saturday Vigil and 10:30am Sunday Mass.
2. Plans and provides music for Sunday Vespers at St. Lawrence during Advent
and Lent.
3. Trains, directs, and schedules cantors.
4. Leads the choir at Immaculate Conception Parish.
5. Coordinates and accompanies the St. Lawrence Choir.
6. When available, provides music for Parish weddings and funerals, working
alongside cantors and the funeral choir. There are normally 10-15 Weddings
per year and 20-25 funerals.
7. Maintains Liturgical Music Budget.
8. Provides for liturgical updating and education of the parishes.
9. Introduces new music and encourages congregational participation.
10. Communicates through parish bulletin, website, Flocknote, and social media.
B. Member of the Pastoral Team
1. When available, actively participates in parish organizations including
pastoral staff and liturgy preparation groups.
2. Cooperates with the liturgical music projects in the Family of Parishes.
3. When available, provides music for other parish-related events such as Youth
Adoration and parish retreats.
4. Attends staff meetings and serves as a member of the Liturgical Team
D. Professional Development
1. Maintains and develops personal and professional skills.
2. Attends in-service training opportunities.
3. Sharpens skills through personal practice.
Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
A. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGES AND ABILITIES
 Must have a high degree of proficiency in the use of the organ as attested to by
formal credentials and a personal performance audition.
 Should have a working knowledge of other instruments which might be used in
liturgical music.
 Must have skill as an effective choral conductor as demonstrated by formal
credentials and/or a choral audition (rehearsal)
 Must have a knowledge and appreciation of the Church's liturgical tradition as
well as current liturgical practice.
 Must have the ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality
congregational singing.
 Must have a good knowledge of quality repertoire available for liturgical music
programs for adult and children's choirs, organ, and congregation.

B. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Ideally, the candidate has Bachelor’s degree in Music and has training and experience in the
Catholic Liturgy.
V. RESPONSIBILITY FOR QUANTIFIABLE MEASURES
Preparation and administration of annual liturgical music budget, including purchase of
music, payment of additional musical personnel, copyright fees and permissions, and
programs.
VI. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Regular weekend and evening work hours required. Along with the regular parish liturgical
schedule, the Director of Liturgical Music will be required to provide music for additional
services during Holy Week, sacramental celebrations, weddings, and funerals. When the
Liturgical schedule allows, the employee will be expected to be present in the parish office.

Petersburg Parishes. Employees will not publicly oppose the teachings of the Catholic faith

positions of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati or the United States Conference of Catholic
